Episode 9: Top 5 City Songs

In this episode, we’re talking about the greatest songs about or named after cities. It’s a surprisingly common theme in all types of music, many of which are represented in our lists this time around. We also talk about some of our favorite comments from this very blog, and feature two more great bands. We are beyond honored to be featuring post-rock superstars Explosions In The Sky! As if that weren’t enough, we’re also featuring LA pop-culture-pop-rockers No More Kings. As always, you can read our picks after the break.

  1. RE: Cake

They are a significant part of my past, however I am immensely disappointed in my past self for many reasons, a big one is my cake fandom. I tried to get back into Cake two years ago, it made me so sad. Just dull, unimaginative blah.

Strawberry Alarm Clock has other stuff but it is not ‘Incense and Peppermints’

if you need some psychedelic in your life, that would be a good link.

I like this song more, but it is still exceptionally psychedelic.

  2. X is one of my favorite bands and arguably one of the most important bands of the punk movement. What is more punk than a greased rock-n-roller on guitar, psycho rhythm genius on percussion, smooth voiced John Doe, and never-took-a-voice-lesson Exene?

    Answer: NOTHING!

    Great choice.

Also:my band did a kick-ass version of Santa Monica. How can you not love that song?

I just wanna see some…PALM TREES!

And wait, no “Lights” by Journey?! 😉
